Mr. Byrnes is Chairman of the Board of the firm where he assists with the long-term strategy and personnel development but is no longer active in day-to-day operations. Mr. Byrnes has over 30 years of private equity investing experience. In 1982 he organized the private equity arm of the Marshall & Ilsley Corporation, where for 15 years he managed four investment funds.
In 1998 Mr. Byrnes managed the spin-out of M&I's private equity team into Mason Wells, leading the fundraising for its first $175 million buyout fund. In 2005, the firm raised the $300 million Mason Wells Buyout Fund II. Mason Wells Buyout Fund III, a $525 million fund, closed in May 2010. Mr. Byrnes was not active in raising Mason Wells Buyout Fund IV, a $615 million fund that closed in February 2016. While no longer involved in daily activities in Fund IV, Mr. Byrnes continues to serve on the investment committees of Funds II and III. Mr. Byrnes is also active with several of the portfolio investments now held by Funds II and III, but is no longer initiating new investments on behalf of the firm.
Mr. Byrnes has been active in numerous public and civic organizations in Wisconsin. He previously served on the Board of Trustees of the Medical College of Wisconsin and was a founding director of the Milwaukee Institute. Mr. Byrnes also previously served on the Wisconsin Governor's Economic Growth Council and the Wisconsin Technology Council.
Mr. Byrnes is a member of the Board of Directors of Paragon Development Systems, Inc.
Mr. Byrnes received his Juris Doctorate degree from the University of Wisconsin Law School and a bachelor's degree from the University of Notre Dame.Print
